Prof. Stefano RUFFO (born in 1954) got his "Laurea" in Physics from the University of Florence in 1977. After being a fellow of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics in Pisa, he obtained a permanent position as a researcher at the University of Pisa in 1981. In 1987 he became Associate Professor of Condensed Matter Physics at the University of Basilicata, and then moved to the University of Florence in 1991. His main field of research is nonlinear dynamics and statistical physics, specifically: Hamiltonian dynamics; cellular automata; coupled map lattices and spatio-temporal chaos; long-range interactions. He has studied applications of physics to biology: immune system, DNA models. He has published about 140 papers in peer reviewed international journals. He has visited several foreign institutions: Oxford University (UK), CPT-Marseille (FR), ENS-Lyon (FR), University of California at Berkeley (USA), Tokyo University (JP). He has been an advisor of several master and PhD thesis in Italy and abroad. He is a member of the Advisory Board of Physica A (Elsevier) and an Editor of Communications in Nonlinear Science and Numerical Simulations (Elsevier). He is a member of the C3 Commission (Statistical Physics) of the IUPAP (2008-2011).
